It's been a week since we started climbing Fansipan, but it feels almost a lifetime ago. Flying overseas to climb a mountain was something I first thought of in passing because I was starting my #fitspo journey in Sept 2017, when Nicholas first floated the idea of climbing Mt Rinjiani in April 2018. I said sure, because I was on track to complete my 10km run in January, and 21km run in February. So I kept running, then my knee got injured in October. And again in January. And it flared up again in early March, when I said okay to football before I fully recovered. Mistake. So when April came and we had to finalise our plans, I said no. Rinjiani's reputation preceded it. Then they said why not Fansipan? It was easier. In my mind, I said anything but Rinjiani. So I said yes. Fast forward to last week, when I'd hear @nicholasyeam @jessicaong93 @sengjueh @jonathanpaul.sxw @charrrcole joking and having fun as I climbed on ahead of them, just focused on the next step, regardless of where it was going to be. I climbed ahead not because I was faster, but because I was that much slower and slowed them down incredibly. So while I kept going on, they relaxed, enjoyed the sights, then "caught up" in half the time I took to cover twice the distance. We took this picture because this was one point where they caught up to me and I realised how much I was slowing them down. In my heart I was 80% dead because it was still quite early on in the trek, yet I was ~75% done. I said "let's take a picture in case it's the last one I can take". They laughed, we took the selfie, and part of me felt like we could go on. On hindsight, super glad they didn't get pissed at how much I slowed them down, with Nicholas at one point having to carry my bag because I felt like 0.5/10 š But it's done, my first overnight mountain climb, and I'm glad it's with these folks. Nicholas, who insisted on going, Jonathan, who decided he only needed sandals for the climb, SJ, who I had hoped would be almost as unfit as me (spoiler: he wasn't), Jessica, who was always ever encouraging, and Nicole, who we only met at the airport and who turned out to be super chill. Thx and y'all are the best š
