Oliver is here. I’ve never been been more obsessed with anything in life ever 😭😍

40 days. It really is a thing. So many snuggles and mesh undies and sweat and tears. Healing. Outrageous, hysterical love. All the nipple butter. Hunger. The most sacred, primal stuff I’ve ever known. Still hibernating hard but popping up to say sup and thank you and 💕💕💕. Special shout out to my tribe of new mamas who I am so freaking grateful for

✨✨O L I V E R ✨✨ Oliver has only been here for 10 days and he’s changed my heart irreversibly. I’m currently hibernating and soaking up every last drop. I’m not doing any work whatsoever during this precious time, but Ollie came a little earlier than expected before I had a chance to tie up lose ends like an away message on email, so bear with me ❤️. In the last stage of pregnancy when I couldn’t sleep I read a lot of Yrsa Daley-Ward’s Bone. I earmarked only one poem and now I get why: Today is the first day of the rest of it. Of course there will be other first days but none exactly like this. Thank you for all the love and well wishes, We’re taking it all in. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I resisted going on a babymoon, I think partially bc I didn’t want a fuss, and also I’m a chronic homebody. But man am I grateful to my husb for insisting. This weekend I put my phone on airplane mode for 48 hrs and leaned in to vaycay harder than I ever have in life. I will remember it forevs. ❤️❤️❤️

Forgive yourself. Mean it. Reframe. Move on. 〰️ We are often our own harshest critics when we deviate from plan, and I think a big part of that is because we fear that if we are too self-compassionate, we’ll go off the deep end. But it’s actually quite the opposite, because feelings of shame and inadequacy often drive us to overeat and self-soothe with food. My advice? Rather than beat yourself up (which feels terrible), flip the script to something more productive. Psychologists call this cognitive reframing, which really just means identifying counterproductive thoughts, disputing them, and then replacing them with more constructive ones. These are some examples of how this process might play out 🌻🌻🌻 #TheFoodTherapist (also thank you for hanging with me whilst I took a 2 week break from the gram)

“eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full” it’s not bad advice, but it can be a little alienating, bc what if you’re not sure?? The truth is, sometimes it’s hard to decipher between hunger and things that drive us to nosh sans hunger (like stress, procrastination etc...), so I came up with a way to gauge it for real. All you need is crudités. It’s in my book, and today I shared it with @thechalkboardmag. I’m linking on stories now under 📖❤️, press #TheFoodTherapist

sometimes I get all embarrassed and private about stuff like this bc self promotion is strange and so is TV sometimes, but I am on @thedoctorstv tom on CBS. I know it airs at 2p LA time, but pretty sure that changes depending on local time in your area. Regardless, may I just say that @travisstorkmd and @drandrewordon are legitimately the most lovely and generous hosts and I had a great time doing this lil segment, talking about #TheFoodTherapist, the common obstacles I see in my practice and tips for how to deal ❤️

#TheFoodTherapist was in many ways my first professional baby, and having it out in the world while I was just starting to grow an actual human one was both incredibly cool and at times overwhelming for me. Identity is a such a complicated thing, and I wondered what adding mother and author to the mix at the same time would feel like. I don’t think the book made the babe any more meaningful bc that’s pretty great on its own, but I do think that being preg has helped me enjoy the book journey more because it’s given me access to emotions I’ve never had at my disposal. Legitimately, all the feelings. I guess what I’m trying to say is that sometimes I go dark on here, but I read all your messages about the book and it truly means the world. Thank you so much for reading and sharing. And thanks to these fine mags for the May love as well ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
