John is officially one year older tomorrow, so it was a birthday date night tonight. Well into his 40s and he still has visible abs and all of his hair, so I felt any further gifts were totally unnecessary. #happybirthdayhubs #savoringtheflavoring

My middle son, Ford, turned 9 today. 🥳 So with one last free day before school starts back up tomorrow, he got to call the shots all afternoon. Which meant arcade games at Lakepoint Station after lunch - not because he likes arcade games, but because his life’s work thus far has been racking up enough tickets each time we go to graduate from the lame 150-ticket Tootsie Pop shelf, to the legit 800+ ticket shelves where the plushies are. Only true ballers make it to those shelves. 😎 We arrived, and Ford went straight to his go-to game. After a couple disappointing rounds, one spectacular meltdown and advice from his mama that he can only win if he keeps trying, our Fordalicious hit the coveted 1000-ticket jackpot for the very first time in his arcade career. 🎉 And headed straight to the baller shelves where he belongs. #happybirthdaybaby #savoringtheflavoring

The boys have been out of school for 16 days. I’m officially in no-more-talky mode. 🤫 Which leaves me plenty of time for eating. How I did this crazy good salad👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring • • 1. Marinated a couple boneless skinless @butcher_box chicken breasts in avocado oil + garlic powder + onion powder + thyme + sea salt + pepper for a few hours, then browned a min or two per side in a skillet, until golden. Put on a baking sheet + baked for 20ish min at 400 degrees. Let it rest + sliced. 2. Marinated some @butcher_box steaks in Worcestershire + garlic powder + sea salt + pepper for a few hours, then patted dry + cooked a min per side in a hot cast iron skillet over high heat. Stuck the skillet in a 500 degree oven for 3-4 min to cook the rest of the way, then took it out + let it rest a few min before slicing. 3. Served on top of chopped lettuce w/olives + tomatoes + steamed asparagus + blue cheese crumbles + chopped scallions. Tossed w/olive oil + balsamic + served.👌🏼

Cleanse Day 2: John says I have a problem with authority. He points to my refusal to follow cleanses to the letter as just one example of said rebelliousness. 😑 So far, I’m digging the current @medlieveggies cleanse I’m doing, but per the yoozh, I’m also adding my own spin - ie, eating veggie-filled meals whenever the hell I feel like it. Because my goal is really just to wean myself off this leftover sugar dependence from the holidays. Tonight was a scramble with spinach and tons of garlic and avocado, drenched in fresh pesto. Sans parmesan of course. I mean, I’m cleansing over here, people. 😎 #savoringtheflavoring

I’ve been in the market for some trouser-y style jeans, and this brand realllllllly makes your legs + can look 👌🏼. Also have some public speaking coming up 😳, so obviously, a new blazer was a must. Because I couldn’t have just opted for one of the 20 blazers currently hanging in my closet. 😬 Linked ‘em both. The instructions for my upcoming cleanse said to eat clean for a couple days prior to starting. 🧐 Which of course translated for me as “Make air fries and bathe them in homemade honey mustard sauce.” Pretty sure that’s what they meant. 🤔 How I did these👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring • • 1. I cut a smallish russet potato into fries + tossed w/a drizzle of avocado oil + garlic powder + onion powder + dried thyme + a little smoked paprika + sea salt. 2. Stuck in my air fryer + cooked at 400 degrees for 15 min. 3. For the sauce, I mixed together about 3ish tbsp homemade mayo + a couple tsp each of yellow mustard + Dijon mustard + a little drizzle of honey + a little garlic powder + a little sea salt, then double-dipped the hell outta my fries. 👌🏼

❓What do y’all think are the best smells in the world?❓Personally, my votes would be for bread baking, sweet olive bushes, sizzling bacon, sporting-good stores, freshly baked pizza, violets, fresh basil, rosemary, chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven, gardenias, onions hitting a hot skillet, a campfire, ripe strawberries, roses, my babies’ heads after a bath, and oddly enough, Worcestershire sauce. So tonight’s Greek cauliflower rice bowls w/steak (marinated in Worcestershire) reallllllllly got my flag up the pole. 🍆 Super easy, yummy dinner, and now I’ve got chimichurri for the week too! 😃 How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring • • 1. Marinated some @butcher_box steaks in avocado oil + Worcestershire + garlic powder + sea salt + pepper for a few hours, then patted dry + cooked a min per side in a hot cast iron skillet over high heat. Processed a whole head of cauliflower florets into “rice” in the food processor, then sautéed in ghee for a few min in my huge cast iron skillet. Seasoned w/sea salt + garlic powder + pepper + onion powder. 3. Made some chimichurri sauce: Minced a bunch each of cilantro, parsley + green onion + a couple tbsp of fresh oregano leaves + 2 garlic cloves in the food processor, then added in a couple pinches of sea salt + the juice of 1/2 a lemon. With the machine running, I drizzled in olive oil through the feeder tube until it was the consistency I like, like a pesto sauce. 4. Served steak over cauliflower rice, then topped w/chopped cuke, tomato, red onion, olives, feta + chimichurri.👌🏼

I realized that desperation for something sweet had set in when I actually found myself moaning and contemplating a double dose whilst taking my elderberry syrup (fighting off a cold over here 😷) this afternoon. So I made myself some apples sautéed in ghee + cinnamon + drenched in @purelypecans. Tasted like pie after three full days of zero sugar. Calling it a win. #savoringtheflavoring

What the birthday boy wants, the birthday boy gets. 🥳 How I did John’s fave chicken + dumplings👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring • • 1. I drizzled a little olive oil in my large Dutch oven over medium heat, then cooked 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs - seasoned with @beautifulbrinysea rosemary sea salt + pepper + dried thyme - a few min per side, until cooked through. Removed from the pot to cool a little before chopping into bite sized pieces. 2. Added 1 diced onion, 3 diced carrots, 3 diced celery stalks + 5 minced garlic cloves to the same pot with a little more olive oil + scraped up the bits of chicken fat from the bottom as I stirred. Added a little rosemary sea salt + sautéed a few min. 3. Added in about 6-7 cups chicken bone broth + brought up to a simmer. 4. While I was waiting on the broth to simmer, I made the dumpling dough. Pulsed 2 cups flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp sea salt, 1 tbsp or so fresh chives + 6 tbsp cold butter (cut into small cubes) in the food processor until it resembled pebbles, then while the machine was running, I slowly poured in 3/4 cup of milk through the feeder tube until it became a dough. 5. Patted out the dough into a large rectangle on a floured piece of parchment paper, floured the top of the dough a little so it wouldn’t stick, then used a pizza cutter to cut into small dumplings. 6. Added the chicken back into the simmering broth, then plopped the dumplings in to cook a couple min. 7. Stirred in a bag of frozen peas + served. 👌🏼

One of John’s Christmas gifts from me was a 2020 book club for just us two. 😃 Four quarters, each with its own theme, three books per quarter. Needless to say, my money-minded Capricorn husband couldn’t have been more turned on to learn that Q1 is allllll about finances. 🍆 After a rough 5:49am flight home from NY this morning, much of which I spent dry heaving and/or vomiting into an empty gift bag, and a looooong nap when we finally arrived home, I’m digging into book number ☝🏼 this evening. #schwing #savoringtheflavoring
