it’s the simple things, like eating chicken & waffles on the couch for breakfast 🧇✨ i spent some time researching this dish - food scholars are torn between origin theories. from what i’ve read, this dish became a part of our culinary lexicon in the mid 1900’s starting with Wells Supper Club in Harlem and Roscoe’s in Long Beach. but according to food historians, that’s just when it got popular. there is evidence pointing back to plantations in the south in the 1800’s. it’s recorded that “Enslaved Africans mixed & cooked rice flour batter to make golden edged waffles, dabbing them on blackberry preserves and frying chicken” (article linked in stories) it’s cool to know the history behind your food. but it’s also important to change the narrative and give credit where it’s due. @broccyourbody made me this beyyyyond dank breakfast using @birchbenders paleo waffles - we also came up with our own version of a hot honey sauce! incredible. you can find the recipe on her page!
