āWhen you have more than you need, build a longer table, not a higher fence.ā Your platform is in vain if you amass riches and do nothing to give back.
Because of my recent @forbes article (almost 20,000 hits, WOW!) and @dearalyne video (620,000 views š), itās been inspiring to see how many people of color have hit me up, as thereās not nearly enough representation of us in the travel media space.
So Iāve been sending tips, pointers, and advice all weekend.
BUT! If information alone made us rich, weād all be billionaires.
Itās information, application, and dedication that are the three components to success, so I hope these 3 quick tips will give further inspiration and context.
1. CHANGE YOUR CIRCLE.
Weāve all heard the quote by Jim Rohn, āYouāre the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.ā I didnāt truly understand the power of that until I made it a goal this year to aim to be the dumbest person in the room.
That sounds foolish, but think about it ā how are you growing if youāre always the one giving information?
I had to start connecting with people who not only made more money than me, but had more experience in more areas.
You donāt have to cut everyone out of your life, just be a bit more selective with who youāre giving your best energy to.
2. START JOURNALING.
I started journaling because I was constantly throwing myself into foreign territory ā whether the food, the currency, or the culture, everything about my life was a never-ending cycle of adaptation.
I needed some way to center myself and meditation and journaling was the best answer.
3. TAKE MONEY OUT OF THE EQUATION.
This sounds counterintuitive, but I need people to understand that if youāre in a profession solely for the money and perks, then youāll never truly be happy or satisfied.
How I know blogging is for me? Because Iād still be doing it if I never made a single dollar from it.
I started my first blog when I was 11, and even though my hard-hitting content was about cute boys at my school š
I developed a voice and sense of liberation from feeling like there was a corner of the Internet I could call my own.
