Some days I’m thinking “how am i going to survive another moment?” And some days i can’t believe he’s mine and i get the be the nearest observer of his big, beautiful, hysterical life. I’m so excited for him to be in playschool this year, he was made for it, and at the same time I’m so jealous of his preschool teacher—i can only imagine what quirks in his personality the school setting will bring out in him, but i have some guesses...Simon and i have a lot of similarities and i can’t think of many happier times than my school days. I hope i get even half as much enjoyment watching my boys go through it as i did doing it myself. And i hope he is blessed with just as many fun teachers and classmates as i was. #simongoestoschool

When Marcus walked downstairs the morning of our anniversary this year and saw a wrapped up gift sitting on the table (even though we had said “no gifts this year”) I suppose he panicked. I never told him, but he accidentally put the reminder in our shared phone calendar, so at 6:30AM my phone buzzed with: “PICK UP SEE’S AFTER WORK!” 😂 And having him stress and immediately think of something I love deep within my soul, then go create a custom box, remembering all my favorites (gimme all the nuts and caramel please), is kind of my ideal gift— thoughtful and functional, (because I function best with a pound of @seescandies on my top shelf). Makin’ do in our little makeshift kitchen. That’s a plastic folding table sitting atop our frontless @ikeausa boxes—but our @semihandmade order arrives tomorrow! Now we just have to finalize our paint decision and get those doors and drawers painted! I’m SO excited to have a place to put things and to have a real countertop, sink and dishwasher! But I will miss watching these two little monkey boys swing around and play house in these open boxes—You win some you lose some, i guess. 💓 #theoddhouse

Nursery boy! 18 months//Sings the tunes to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, The Greatest Showman and Moana. Currently trying to master the skill of jumping. Loves reading books, taking bathes and scaling walls, window ledges, bed frames and ladders. Has figured out how to scoot chairs around the kitchen so he can get atop all the surfaces 🤪. Loves waving hi to strangers and taking his diapers to the trash can. He watches how something is done and immediately has it figured out for himself. Finally has some words—“want mama” “bubbles” “daddy” “Ssss” (for Simon) ”baby” “this” “that” “moon” “cheese” “balloon” “ball” “yeah” “home” “shoes” “woah” “Shhh🤫”. Anything he can’t communicate he grabs my hands and takes me there. Acts like he wants to sit on the potty but then wants right off—does this mean i should consider training soon?? Still nursing way more than I’d like 😜 Love this little naughty bug.

I just found out the new @strangerthingstv doesn’t come out til next summer and it’s hurting me deep down inside. I only watch about one show per year and i was so ready to sacrifice some sleep for a little time in the upside down. What can i get excited about now??

So many things to teach these boys as they grow older. One of which is that their actions matter. I don’t ever want them to believe “I’m just one person, what i do doesn’t make a difference.” Good or bad, what they do has an impact. After searching at 4 different stores for this magazine, i finally got my hands on one—so i could bask in a little of @katiehackworth’s design glory. She is my idol and a friend and i often joke that when we make decisions in our home we ask “What would Katie do?” One line in her article made the deepest part of my heart cry out in amens, “For centuries, homes were an art form, an expression of a craft...I’m trying to bring that mind-set back to life.” You guys, i think of this concept almost every time I’m in my car driving around, wondering why builders/architects/people keep putting up money to build buildings without taking one ounce of thought into long-term quality or attractiveness. It breaks my heart. Thank you Katie, for making your little mark of beauty on this earth. Now come to Arizona and rub off on us, would ya?
