Despite its growing users and popularity, Instagram still needs to regularly create updates. These updates are to
improve Instagram users' experience and also to compete with other social media platforms. Recently, Instagram has been rolling out a lot of testing and official new features, and some of the tested features are only available to a few users. If you are one of the users that haven’t gotten some of the tested features, here are some of the latest new Instagram features testing.

Instagram Notes

Instagram has been testing a new feature that only rolled out to several users. If you frequently use Instagram, you are probably already familiar with Direct Messaging. Direct Messaging or DM has become a primary communication medium for Instagram users. The company has added a few features in DM, like Theme and Video Chat, to increase users’ DM-ing experience. Instagram now creates a new way to interact with it called Instagram Notes.

Instagram Notes is like the sticky notes of Instagram, which allows you to post short messages to your “Close Friends” or followers you follow back. You will have a maximum of 60 characters to post your thoughts, and it will only appear for 24 hours, similar to Instagram Story. However, you can only post one note at a time. So, if you want to post a new note before the 24 hours of your last note are over, the new note will replace your previous one.

Here are the steps to use Instagram Notes for the lucky ones who already got this new feature:

  1. Update your Instagram app to the latest version.
  2. Open the Instagram app.
  3. Tap the message bubble icon in the top right corner to open the DM page.
  4. You should see ‘Notes’ at the top of the DM page.
  5. Tap the “+” button to add a new note.
  6. Choose to share the note with your “Close Friends” or followers that you follow back.
  7. Tap ‘Share’ to post your note.

Feature Updates in Instagram Creator Marketplace

Instagram Creator Marketplace is a comprehensive tool that allows businesses, brands, influencers, and marketers to find potential creative partners for campaigns and fully manage the campaign process. This feature could be hugely valuable with the increasing focus on Instagram Reels. Creator Marketplace is still in the testing period, and Instagram plans to add more updates to it. Creator Portfolio, New Project Options, and AR Ads will soon be available in the feature.

Creator Portfolio enables creators to show their unique experience and drive brand partnership's potential. By building their portfolio, creators can share an overview of who they are, highlight their previous content, and showcase their past successful brand partnerships.

Another upcoming update for Instagram Creator Marketplace is New Project Options. New Project Options allow brands to make their projects discoverable by creators, and creators can let the brands know that they are interested in the opportunity. The feature allows brands to send messages to multiple creators at once via a prioritized partnership messages inbox, and send projects with fixed offers that speed up the process of sealing the content deals.

Lastly, Instagram has rolled out a few types of ads, and the latest one is called AR ads which are an advertisement that uses augmented reality. Powered by Spark AR, brands can use AR ads to encourage people to interact with their ad content through their surroundings, giving an immersive augmented reality ad experience. This feature could change people’s perspective on ads and make the ads more effective.

Instagram in App Schedule for Posts and Reels

Another new feature on testing by Instagram is an in-app schedule for posts and Reels. With this new feature, creators can schedule a picture, video, carousel, or reel in the Instagram app up to 75 days in advance. This scheduling feature is only available for the business account. And currently, only a few users have the option to schedule posts through the app since the feature is still being tested. Users and creators that are lucky to experience it first are welcoming and giving positive feedback on this new feature.

So, here is how the in-app scheduling seems to work:

  1. Create a post.
2. After you have finished editing, and in the tag people, add a location, and other sharing options page, scroll to the bottom, and tap “advanced settings”.
  3. Tap the “Schedule this Post”, choose the time and date, and that’s it, you've scheduled a post.

Multiple Links in Instagram Bio

Instagram has been testing the multiple links in Instagram bio for a while, and Instagram continues to test this option. This feature enables creators to add multiple links to their Instagram bio to help them expand their business-building potential on the platform.

The test is not yet in wide release, but some creators that have this option are already putting the additional link space to use. As of now, the links are still on display at their original place. The difference between a link and multiple links is the plus sign after the link. This plus sign indicates that the user or creator has added multiple links and people can click it to view the full list of links.

Instagram (Might) Bring Back the Profile Song

Instagram is reportedly internally working on a feature that allows users to add a song to their profiles. Developer Alessandro Paluzzi first shared the news on Twitter with screenshots about the potential feature and how it would work. If you feel like this feature sounds familiar, well it was once used by a social media called Myspace.

Back in the early 2000s, MySpace famously allowed its users to choose a song as background music for their profile. If you were a teen or twenty-something in the 2000s, you will likely remember that this feature was kind of a big deal. At the time, it was a completely new and exciting experience to have the ability to publicly express yourself or to just showcase your music taste through a song choice.

Since this feature isn't being externally tested, it is uncertain whether Instagram will roll out this feature and make it publicly available. But, if Instagram decides to test it publicly, it is highly possible that Instagram users will find it very nostalgic and positively welcome the new feature.

Full-Screen Feed Page (briefly tested then canceled)

In June 2022, Instagram started testing a full-screen display for photos and videos. This new update instantly becomes popular but for the wrong reason. The full-screen feed page makes Instagram too similar to its competitor TikTok, and many people didn’t like it. They make it clear that they hate the change and want the old feed page back.

Sure enough, the full-screen feed page was short-lived and only lasted for a month. Instagram then said that they were listening to people’s feedback and announced the full-screen feed page to be pulled back. Although Reels are gaining more and more popularity, curating the display to be more focused on Reels seems like not the right move for the time being.
